The first bell rings at 8:45 a.m., and school begins at 8:50 a.m. Students should not arrive before 8:30 a.m. unless they are participating in the school breakfast program. Please do not drop your child off at his or her classroom. Students are to wait outside and come in to stand by their door only after the bell rings.
School is dismissed at 3:50 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 1:50 p.m. on Friday (or any other day that is an “early out” day.)
Things to Bring to School
It is essential that your child carries a backpack or book bag to school each day. This needs to be labeled with your child’s name. All students are required to bring their planners and white folders to school EVERY DAY. All homework and other papers will be sent home in the white folder.
Pencils, crayons, scissors, and glue will be provided for each student; however, students may bring their own supplies in addition to the ones we provide if they wish. Markers and big pink pencil erasers are always fun and useful if you’d like to bring them.
Toys do not belong at school and will be taken away if played with during class, and held till a parent can pick them up or till the end of the year. If a student has a cell phone it must be turned off and kept in the backpack. If a student rides a bike, skateboard, or scooter to school, it must be stored outside in the bike cage- not inside the school.

Birthday Treats}
If you would like to send a treat for your child’s birthday, please send enough for the whole class (currently 24 kids, but this fluctuates quite often throughout the year!) Please do not send any homemade items. Please do not send colored drinks.
Homework
Each child is expected to read with a parent or guardian for 20 minutes each weeknight. The planner (or any other piece of paper if planner is misplaced) is signed by a parent or guardian each day that the 20 minutes or more reading is completed. There is also usually one math homework each weeknight, Monday through Thursday. Home work should take between 20-30 minutes per night.
Library
Every child checks out one book from the school library each week. Students are responsible for the book checked out to them and will be required to pay for lost or damaged items. First grade students do not take their books home, unless special arrangements have been made.
Volunteers
We LOVE having helpers in our classroom! If you would like to help with student groups, reading with individuals, parties, field trips, copying/stapling/cutting projects, etc. please let us know and we will find a time that works for you. You must check in at the office before going to your child’s classroom during the school day- for any time or any reason!
Class Website
We have a class website at www.mrsjensen.com where you can go to see what’s happening each week, download pages to study, links to educational websites, etc. The front page will be updated once a week by Monday night, and will include a secret question to answer before Friday for a Panther Pride!
